Update Basic Labs
Have you been told your labs are within "normal" range? At times, these ranges may be outside of optimal, but not all providers will share this information. Update fasting insulin, fasting glucose, hemoglobin A1C, vitamins and minerals including B, B6, B12, Folate, Zinc, Copper, Vitamin D, basic inflammatory markers, & CBC. Deficiencies in these areas can be connected to many mental health concerns. Covered by your existing insurance policy.
Toxin Burden
Toxin Burden testing is an extensive toxin panel that detects levels of heavy metals, mold toxins, chemicals, and other environmental toxins that can build up in your body and be caused by environmental factors, leading to inflammation and chronic illness. This test is our most thorough and complete toxin panel, as it combines measurments for heavy metals, mycotoxins, and environmental toxins labs.
Food Sensitivies
Some patients experience symptoms they believe may be related to certain foods. Selected food-sensitivity testing may be available when appropriate, but food-sensitivity testing is not the same as evaluation for a true IgE-mediated food allergy. If you experience hives, swelling, breathing difficulty, anaphylaxis or another possible allergic reaction, evaluation by an appropriate medical professional or allergy specialist may be necessary. Specialty food-test results should be interpreted alongside your actual symptoms and dietary history rather than used alone to create unnecessarily restrictive diets. We focus on correct diagnosis of sensitivies AND allergies.
Parasitic Infection
We have several testing options available that can detect various parasitic infections, bacteria and pathogens, as well as insect borne infections such as Lyme Disease.
Expanded Thyroid Panel
Many doctors only perform basic thyroid tests that do not uncover subtle metabolic changes that can signal a larger issue such as Hashimoto's. Our practitioners will perform an expanded thyroid panel to show immune system activity and possible dysfunction. Thyroid disfunction can be connected to depression & anxiety. This test is covered by your existing insurance policy.
Stress & Adrenal Fatigue
There are several tests available to show stress levels and potential adrenal fatigue. Our preferred tests are AM cortisol or cycle mapping tests, which show cortisol patterns over an extended period of time. Low or elevated stress hormones play a huge role in mental health disorders.
Hormonal Imbalance
We can test male and female sex hormones which, if imbalanced, may lead to mental health concerns, infertility, adult acne, weight gain, low sex drive, and more. Estrogen Dominance and or testosterone dominance in women are two of the issues we see the most.
Genetic Testing & Chemical Imbalance
Genesite testing can show which medications have the potential to relieve your mental health symptoms best with the least amount of side effects. Get off the medication roller coaster and use your lab results to make informed decisions about what's right for you. Organic Acid testing can show dysfunction in neutrotrasmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, giving you definitive answers about chemical imbalance.
Inflammation & Metabolic Dysfunction
Our Organic Acid testing measures the levels of organic compounds in urine that are produced in the body as a part of many vital biochemical pathways. It's used to check for rare inborn genetic defects of metabolism, bacterial overgrowth, fat and carbohydrate metabolism, cellular functioning, oxidative stress, presence of toxins, and more.
GI Mapping & Gut Health
Our Organic Acid Test is as an indicator of dysbiosis, an abnormal overgrowth of yeast and bacteria in the intestinal tract often referred to as candida. Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus (GI-MAP™) is a test to determine what microbes are in a patient's stool sample, and in what quantities. It works by repeatedly copying any DNA in the sample and then analyzing what and how much DNA it finds.
Women's Health Issues
Cycle Mapping Tests are designed for cycling women who struggle with ongoing symptoms such as monthly migraines, fertility issues, or PCOS. The addition of the cortisol awakening response (CAR), a transient, immediate rise in cortisol upon awakening (distinct from the diurnal rhythm), this test provides a fuller assessment of hormone fluctuations, baseline stress response, additional androgen hormones, & DHEA-S.
Insomnia Causes
Our cycle mapping test shows melatonin status over an extended period to detect insomnia caused by hormonal factors.
Functional MEDICINE & Lab Testing Service
Our practitioners will be there to help you to understand your lab results and the treatment needed to improve symptoms post testing, providing a thorough protocol if indicated. This service requires two appointments, an initial lab consultation and lab interpretation follow up session. Your follow up will be scheduled as your lab tests are in processing. While basic blood labs are often covered by insurance, many specialty labs are not. Your provider will be able to recommend the tests that would be most valuable to you based on your symptoms and provide pricing information. Please note you are under no obligation to move forward with tests suggested. You will be billed for these tests separately from your appointments directly through the lab. We understand that this process can be costly, so we are proud to now offer 3 month payment plans on all specialized labs.

What Is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is a whole-person approach to care that considers how different areas of health may interact rather than evaluating every symptom in isolation.
Your provider may consider your current symptoms, medical history, medications, nutrition, sleep, stress, activity, metabolic health, gastrointestinal health, hormones, environmental exposures and previous laboratory results when evaluating your concerns.
Functional medicine does not mean abandoning conventional medical care.
At WHOLE, we may use standard laboratory testing, specialty functional testing, lifestyle and nutrition recommendations, supplements and conventional medical treatment when appropriate as parts of an individualized care plan.
Our goal is not to order as many tests as possible. It is to determine what information may actually help us better understand your individual health picture and what reasonable next steps may follow.

Each patient who come’s to WHOLE seeks care for their own unique reasons, and is then treated uniquely - there is no one size fits all approach. Some have persistent symptoms despite routine laboratory results being within standard reference ranges. Others want a more comprehensive review of previously diagnosed health concerns, medications, nutrition, metabolic health or lifestyle factors.

We often times can advocate for you with outside specialists and assist with referrals so that you feel represented when you need to seek out conventional medical care within the health system.

Physical and mental health can influence one another, and some patients benefit from having access to providers across multiple areas of care.
Depending on your individual needs, your care may involve functional medicine and laboratory evaluation, psychiatric treatment, psychotherapy, nutrition and lifestyle support, or a combination of services.
You are never required to use every WHOLE service. Our goal is to make coordinated options available when they are useful to your care.

Functional Medicine is More than Lab Testing
Functional medicine does not end when your laboratory results arrive.
Testing is useful only when the information can be placed into context and used thoughtfully.
After reviewing your results, your WHOLE Wellness provider may discuss recommendations involving nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress management, supplementation, medication review, conventional medical follow-up or additional evaluation when appropriate.
Recommendations are individualized according to your health history, laboratory findings, symptoms, medications, treatment preferences and provider judgment.
You will also be told when a finding does not require treatment.
Our goal is to provide useful information and a practical plan for you- not to create an endless cycle of testing.
